Answer By law4u team

No, it is not necessary to give reasons for seeking information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. According to Section 6(2) of the RTI Act: "An applicant making a request for information shall not be required to give any reason for requesting the information..." This means: You only need to provide your name and contact details. The purpose or motive behind your request is irrelevant. Public Information Officers (PIOs) cannot ask you why you want the information. This provision ensures that citizens can seek transparency without fear of discrimination or harassment.

Dear Client, No, reasons are not required to be given for requesting information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. As per Section 6(2) of the Act, it is explicitly provided that an applicant is not expected to provide any reason for seeking information or personal information except contact details. It helps in promoting transparency and accountability in governance without assigning undue burden to the applicant. I hope this answer helps. In case of future queries, please feel free to contact us. Thank you.
