The Delhi High Court has given actor Amitabh Bachchan more time to complete a settlement with some defendants in a case concerning the protection of his personality rights. The order was passed by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav on October 9, 2026, in the case titled Amitabh Bachchan v. Rajat Nagi & Ors.
The suit seeks a permanent injunction to protect Bachchan’s personality rights. On November 25, 2022, the court had granted an ex-parte ad interim injunction in his favour.
Settlement Talks
During the proceedings, the parties explored the possibility of resolving the dispute through mediation. Lawyers appearing before the court submitted that a settlement had been reached with some of the defendants, but the agreement had not been formally signed due to logistical issues on the plaintiff’s side.
The court recorded the submission that “an amicable settlement has been arrived qua some of the defendants”.
The plaintiff’s counsel sought additional time to complete the required formalities and place the settlement agreement on record. The court accepted the request and allowed more time for the process to be completed.
Court’s Directions
The High Court listed the matter for the next hearing on November 16, 2026. The proceedings will allow the plaintiff to complete the settlement formalities and clarify the status of the agreement.
The court also issued a direction in case the settlement does not go through or remains incomplete. If Bachchan wishes to pursue any claims or issues in the suit under those circumstances, he must remain personally present at the next hearing.
The court said his presence would enable it to exercise its powers under Order X Rule 2 read with Order V Rule 3 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, and Section 168 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.
What Happens Next
The case is scheduled to come up on November 16, 2026. The next hearing will be significant in determining whether the settlement with some defendants is formally completed or whether the plaintiff wishes to continue pursuing the outstanding claims.
